UNCCP campaign: Hadjah Alilwa, a breast cancer patient calls for decentralization of cancer services in Uganda.

Cancer remains the second leading cause of mortality worldwide, with Uganda registering 34,008 new cases and 22,992 deaths annually (Globocan 2020). Uganda Cancer Society has coordinated efforts of civil society organizations, individuals, and survivors in a campaign, calling upon the Government to expedite the adoption of the Uganda National Cancer Control Plan (UNCCP) as it will help curb the increasing burden of cancer. The plan looks to streamline evidence-based interventions and guide national planning towards improved prevention of cancer and ensure appropriate treatment and supportive care are available based on the country’s specific needs and resources.
