Uganda Cancer Society welcomes the International Cancer Institute, Kenya

On Monday 14th February 2022, Uganda Cancer Society (UCS) received Dr. Kevin Makori (3rd right) & Gloria Kitur (2nd left) from the International Cancer Institute (ICI), Kenya. ICI is a Non-governmental, Not-for-Profit Organization based in Eldoret, Kenya whose main purpose is to expand education and training opportunities in cancer care, education and research across Sub-Saharan Africa through multisectoral corroborations and partnerships with both governmental and non- governmental organizations.
Their visit to UCS was on the background of initial engagements around their programme, for which UCS is looked at as an impending Partner. Their programme in Uganda will be looking to improve access to screening, diagnostics, treatment and patient support services for breast, cervical and prostate cancers and other hematological disorders (while integrating with NCD care where possible) in six districts of Western Uganda. This will be done through a health systems strengthening approach; working in collaboration with communities, districts health care services and the country’s ministry of health and its partners.
UCS as a coordination umbrella of over 41 cancer civil society organisations pledges to support ICI, and any other progressive effort by local, regional and international partners in a bid to achieve its vision of a cancer free Uganda.
