On Saturday, 4th November, 2023, we held our annual General Assembly Meeting (GAM) at Mulago Guest House in Kampala. With over 30 paid up members (both individual and organizational) in attendance, we adopted our new Strategic Plan (2024 – 2028), 2022 Program Report as well as the audit report of 2022.
The Assembly started with opening remarks by the Chairperson Board of Directors, Dr. Ubaldo Bahemuka Mushabe, who welcomed all members present with specific focus on the newest members to the UCS. He further expressed his gratitude to all continuing individual and member organizations for their consistency in contributing towards effective cancer control in Uganda before, during and in the post COVID- 19 period, amid reports of some members closing operations due to financial constraints.
In his speech, the Executive Director of Uganda Cancer Society, Mr. Dennis Olodi, enumerated a number of achievements in the year, including but not limited to; review of the strategic plan, providing free artificial breasts/prostheses to cancer patients, policy advocacy, membership support, and awareness raising. With additional input from the consultant who worked on the strategic plan, Olodi added that, in the coming year, much of the focus will be on resource mobilization, capacity building for members, coordination and membership as well as building and consolidating relations with UCS partners, among other things.
This Assembly was wrapped with a ceremonial awarding of Membership Certificates and cake cutting presided over by Dr. Margaret Okello Nyeko, one of the founding members of the Society.
