Ms.Pauline Picho is a Public Health Practitioner currently serving as the Executive Director of Nama Wellness Community Center. She has been in this position since August 2015. When she joined the organization, it was a year old and had a registration status of a Community Based Organization. She took the lead in guiding the organization through the transition process to become a registered NGO. She played a key role in developing organizational strategic documents such as the constitution, strategic plan, and other relevant policies and procedures.

Together with her team, Pauline has expanded the scope of services offered by the organization to meet the needs of vulnerable communities. This includes implementing Maternal and Child Health programs, specifically focusing on cervical cancer screening and treatment using the innovative technique called thermocoagulation. Additionally, she established a Community Health Worker (CHW) program to strengthen community health systems. She has also fostered collaborations and partnerships with key stakeholders, including the government of Uganda through the line ministry.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pauline took the lead in upgrading the health facility from H/CII to H/CIII. This was done to ensure that expectant mothers facing transportation restrictions could still have access to facility-based deliveries. Furthermore, she established a COVID-19 treatment unit to provide care for moderate cases identified in the community.

Before her current role, she worked at Reach Out Mbuya HIV/AIDS Initiative, where she actively participated in community-based interventions for individuals affected and infected with HIV.

Pauline has also actively participated in national health initiatives. She played a role in reviewing the national Village Health Team (VHT) training curriculum, contributed to the development of the National Community Health strategy, and participated in reviewing VHT operational guidelines and strategies.

In addition to her position at Nama Wellness Community Center, She serves as the vice-chairperson of Uganda Red Cross Society, Mukono branch, and is a member of the national council committee. She is also a board member of the Uganda Cancer Society (UCS) and leads the HR committee. She represents her organization at the bi-weekly Community Health Impact Coalition meetings, advocating for proCHWs.
