UCS and Rotary donate assorted food and sanitary items to four (4) cancer patients' hostels in Kampala, Uganda

In the week of 12th – 16th April, 2021, UCS and URCP delivered assorted food and sanitary items to four (4) cancer patients hostels in Kampala; Bless a Child Foundation (BCF), the Patient Relief Mission (PRM), Charity Cancer Foundation (CCF) and New Hope Children’s Hostel – the latter being a subsidiary of Kawempe Home Care. These hostels provide free accommodation, meals, transport and psychosocial support to patients and caregivers as they seek treatment for cancer.
This donation support arose from the fact that COVID-19 pandemic enormously affected patients’ access to cancer treatment services mainly because the services are largely centralised within Kampala. The pandemic also greatly reduced support to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), making it almost impossible to sustain supportive services to patients seeking treatment at Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) and those seeking hostel services as they undergo treatment at UCI. To this end, Uganda Cancer Society partnered with Uganda Rotary Cancer Programme (URCP) and the All Music Safari, formerly Jazz Safari to raise funds to support UCI and cancer patients’ hostels through, among others, provision of food supplies and essential items such as sanitizers and face masks.
